I’m starting to research the 2012 Seed Guide that I put together every year. One feature I’m going to provide in the guide is a cheat sheet for all the seeds on the average values for 34 factors. This will help you quickly assess whether the 2012 tourney teams are better or worse than average compared to the last decade’s seeds.

I can’t believe I haven’t done this before. With a cheat sheet like this, I would’ve known instantly that a top seed like the 2011 Pitt Panthers wasn’t up to snuff. They were on the down side of nearly every one of the key factors for determining tourney performance. Their coach was neither as experienced nor successful as the average top seed. They weren’t as hot coming into the dance. They didn’t shoot or protected as well. And they were not as efficient either offensively nor defensively. This was a weak one seed.

I don’t know if this will be the final format—it’s a lot of numbers—but here’s my first take at the cheat sheet:

This sounds great! I know we spoke in the past about adding a few more criteria in the 'bracketmaster'. If you could add some attributes to the bracketmaster, like some of the factors you mentioned in this post, that would give some of us followers more fodder for research and keep us coming back for more! What do you think
