I made(and updated this year) a breakout of the sweet 16 on an excel sheet since the tourney went to 64 teams...I think the lowest "non- bcs" teams in the sweet 16 were 3 maybe. I'd have to look it up.

I hear ya, jcos. The pulse check stats relate more to Final Four advancement than Sweet 16. This bracket might optimize your chances that your Final Four is retained longer...but it won't necessarily peg the S16. And there are a bunch of Mid- Majors I like this year: Butler, UTEP, BYU (all in the West!), Utah State, Siena (especially ... more »

Pulse check is too BCS oriented and based on history it won't happen - at least at the Sweet 16 level.

1 Non- BCS school in the Sweet 16(Butler)...this situation pretty much has never happened.

I advanced qualifying underdogs in that one without respect for a vulnerable giant. I would agree...that's a very tough quadrant to pick. Just watch: Wofford will come out of it!

I've been trying to figure out how Cornell beats Wisconsin in the Final Four/Champ model. Wisconsin doesn't appear to be an underachiever and the upset/toss up rules pick Wisconsin over Cornell.

I'm struggling a lot between Cornell, Temple, and Wisconsin right now.

The pick for NIU/UNLV is NIU. You're right on the St. Mary's comment. I meant Richmond. Fix in the works.

Also, the pythag rank model has St. Mary's over Richmond too.

I think you meant to say St. marys over Richmond in the last model.

I like this pulse model, Pete. I think the pulse attributes you picked are very important for tournament success.

I'm still not sold on Minnesota, though. I think they had a hot streak and it will fizzle come tournament time.
