A follow up to yesterday's post:

Given how dominant top seeds are in the first three rounds of the tourney, itÂ’s not surprising that theyÂ’re a perfect 15- 0 against 12 seeds.

Rick Pitino is also 8- 0 in the Sweet 16. Good luck Arizona.

Michigan State (2) vs. Kansas (3)
Oklahoma (2) vs. Syracuse (3)

Ah two more 2 vs. 3 games, so far this year #3's are 2- 0.

Of all the match- ups with a single seed position difference in the first three rounds (8v9, 4v5, 6v7 and 12v13), this one is amazingly the second- most lopsided, behind only 12v13 (6- 1). It gets more lopsided if you concentrate only on two seeds that get imbalanced scoring—more than 60% of their points from either the backcourt or frontcourt. These squads are 14- 3 (.824); the more balanced scoring two seeds are just 5- 7 (.417). If your heart’s set on picking a three seed, go with one whose coach isn’t a rookie to the tourney but has fewer than 10 trips to the dance. These three seeds are 7- 8 (.467), while their counterparts are 3- 11 (.214).

Michigan State gets 61% of their points from their guards..and Kansas's coach has been to the tourney 11 times. Indicates a Michigan State win...

Oklahoma is very balanced..could be a bad sign. However Jim Boheim has been to the tourney 20 times. Should be a good matchup of teams with at least one great NBA talent.

North Carolina (1) vs. Gonzaga (4)

One and four seeds are involved in 35 percent of the games, with top seeds winning over 70 percent of the time. That might sound like a lock, but itÂ’s the worst performance by a top seed in any of its match- ups over the first three rounds. Four seeds thrive when they beat their foes by more than 10 points a game. TheyÂ’re 7- 6 (.538); less dominant four seeds are 3- 18 (.143).

So Gonzaga has a 17.7 scoring margin...well above the 10 points a game threshhold. So similar teams have gone 7- 6. We'll see tonight what happens...not a UNC fan, but tonight would be easier if they win(my gf went to UNC). Either way should be interesting. ... more » « less
